IntroductionS

The introduction generally sets the tone and/or theme for the wedding. Some couples use the introduction to tell a little about themselves, what marriage means to them, how they met and fell in love. Frequently it includes a welcome to guests on behalf of the couple.

Readings & poetry

Readings are optional but can have an important role in the ceremony. There are many beautifully written poems and articles which can say so much to the one/s you love.

They can change the pace of the ceremony

They present an opportunity for the parties to ‘catch their breath’

They can provide active participation for more people

They can be used as a break from the celebrant’s voice!

They can express ideas and thoughts very beautifully and succinctly

Most people are honoured to be invited to read at the ceremony, and are thrilled to be able to publicly express lovely thoughts to you.  You might use poems and readings to express your love and gratitude to your parents / grandparents / siblings / significant others.

Depending on the structure of the ceremony there are a number of suitable places to include a reading. Eg as part of the introduction; before the giving away/presentation of the bride; as part of a ritual (eg candle ceremony); between the asking and vows; after the vows and before the declaration of marriage. In short, they can be used anywhere!! There is no right or wrong number of readings, but in most cases two (2) or three (3) readings is a good balance. Not everyone is accustomed to public speaking and I am available to help and advise readers.

I can supply a wide range of sample poems and readings for clients’ consideration. If necessary I will endeavour to find that elusive one which is just right for you.
