“The ring is a symbolic gesture between parties representing their endless love for one another, for it has no beginning and no ending.”
There is no legal requirement for a wedding ring. It is an outward sign of one’s commitment to another which does not show any signs of waning. It is uncommon for a bride not to have a wedding ring, and these days the majority of grooms are opting for this very popular and proud tradition. But, as with almost everything else, it is your choice.
My resources include a range of ideas for the ring ceremony, such as:
With this ring I thee wed, Take and wear it is as a pledge of My love and devotion to you; And a symbol of all we share, One soul, one heart, one life.’
Many couples like to write their own personal words, either using ideas from of the samples, or completely from their own hearts. When both parties are giving / receiving rings it is not necessary for their wordings to be identical.
Some couples like the ‘Blessing of the Rings’. The wedding rings are placed in a small bag or similar and passed amongst the guests, each of whom may pray for or ask blessings upon their wearers. This is a lovely thought, but you may require a Ring Keeper to keep track of the rings so you can find them when needed!
NB: The giving of a ring is NOT a legal requirement and is quite optional. |
