The fact that you are reading this probably is an indication that you have decided to use a civil celebrant, rather than be married in a church by a minister of religion.
Now you don’t just have to decide on where to hold your reception, but also where to be married. The options are almost limitless: private chapel, at home, public or private gardens, beach at sunset or hot air balloon at dawn, sky diving, snorkelling, car racing and many more. (Note: I don’t ‘do’ sky diving, bungee jumping or caving – and probably a few other things you might think up. I know my fears and limitations!)
Basically the ability for the ceremony to be heard and seen by the witnesses is the only restriction on location. (Plus finding a celebrant game enough to join you in your more adventuresome chosen location.)
Inside locations are comparatively straightforward. However any and all outside locations require consideration of the weather, access, peripheral noise or distractions. Carefully research your choice of outside venue. EG: Is a permit and/or insurance cover required? What happens in the event of a rain, gale, storm, lightning, heatwave or fire ban? What will be the angle of the sun or direction of the wind at both the time and date of your proposed wedding? Is it under a flight path or beside a rail line?
NOTE: An alternative venue is essential for all outside weddings – without exception! (Heat can be as big a problem as wind or rain) |
